Bound 2
/Ima set the stage here: an hour before sabbath I'm locked in my room, hiding after a frenzied day of cooking and carpooling, a ritual to refresh myself before I light my candles at sundown. Bravo on mute. My friend SF on the line. She is my pre lockdown phone call. At the time there was some Kanye shenanigan being discussed in the media.
She says to me, "I really like Kanye". I replied, "Me too".
I love when he throws a tantrum, I love when he wears a skirt, I love him and Kim. I can't get enough. It was one of those times where your friend takes the words out of your mouth, and your love for them instantly deepens. When even the most frivolous of topics draws you closer.
In ancient Judaic history, the mystical rabbis of the city of Tzfat in Israel used to gather to pray on the mountains on Friday afternoon, to spiritually ready themselves for the holiness of the sabbath. Um...
This song is one of the reasons that Yeez will forever be the Man. There is no denying that Mr West is a lyrical genius. And all his songs sound different, which is uncommon in rap. None more so than here. "Bound" mixes rap with brilliant bursts of a girl group circa Motown. I picture a Ronettes situation backing him. I LOVE MOTOWN. I was mesmerized when I first heard this. As tough a nut as Kanye may seem, these are some very touching, sensitive lyrics. "Bound to falling in love". " I know you're tired of loving with nobody to love... So just grab somebody. No leaving this party with nobody to love. No body..." Well, yeah. Who hasn't felt this way at some point?? Despite the Taylor Swift bullshit, he gets it. It's why he's so important. I never had a problem in his self important ego; he's right. He Is indeed a genius. Is it so terrible if he knows that? As long as he keeps creating brilliance for us all to relate to and enjoy, then there's zero harm there. I don't need him as my president, but hey, he knows what his gifts are in poetry and music. With all this material out there on self worth and self empowerment that encourages us to be proud of our talents and accomplishments, we should let the dude revel in his achievements. It takes nothing away from us. And any song that lends itself to a parody by Rogen and Franco is major.
