The Battle Of Evermore

song of the day

Listen to The battle of Evermore by Led Zeppelin

Dedicated to my Bubbie Rae, the ultimate fighter. A shining example of inner strength, and a female force in the world.  They don't make them like her anymore.

This is the first Zep song I really fell in love with.  Tenth grade, 16 years old. I saw Page and Plant at a concert that year. I remember they opened with Black Dog. Perfection.

This song is so powerful and mystical. It's so haunting and beautiful. It conjures up a Gaelic princess wailing a battle cry, as she is preparing to wage war. I hate to give Mel Gibson an iota of credit, but picture a female Braveheart. Then quickly erase that from your mind. Then go back to the encapsulating mandolin, a sound we don't get to hear very much, but that seems to hold the secrets of a world past. Let's take that into our present. There is no band, EVER, like the mighty Led Zeppelin. Let's assume we know how this battle ended...
