Saving All My Love For You

This utter gem of a TV cameo has been lurking in my brain forever. If you were a child of the 80's, and I'm so grateful I was!!  You may have been lucky enough to catch a young Whitney Houston guesting on the series Silver Spoons.

It was 1985. I was 7 years old. There was only live television, blink and you missed it. There were only truly authentic viewing experiences, and being a quality TV addict from a young age, I caught this one. It imprinted in my mind, being a perfect storm of a fresh, pure Whitney, Ricky Schroeder, and one of the best shows during that priceless era in pop culture.

Whitney is my homie, a Jersey girl. Her raw, clear talent will forever remain unmatched. The beauty of her voice as well as her outer beauty shone so bright, even to a clueless 7-year-old. I'm actually going to acknowledge my powers of discernment as a baby👏...

Whitney is such a major part of the soundtrack to my life. This slow, sexy, magnificent song about love and longing still resonates so strongly. The aching in the saxophone still breathes with yearning. I'll always remember where I was upon learning of her terrible, untimely death; at a wine sale for my synagogue🍷🙄.

My turtleneck sweater felt strangulating. When we lose these musical giants, a light goes out. These are the people who sang for us, made us feel, helped us access the emotions we are too often unable to comprehend. We need them. Whenever an artist dies, I feel instantly abandoned and momentarily gutted. Whitney, we miss you. We love you. I promise, your music lives on.  And every little 80's girl is saving all our ❤ for you.
