Earful About Earrings
/I love interesting jewelry that tells me a story. It can be five bucks off the street. If it speaks to me, it speaks to me. That's basically the philosophy I apply to everything. On a family trip to Israel a couple years ago, we made a visit to this fascinating Yemenite jeweler who makes every piece by hand. A time honored craft. I love seeing things created from nothing, the stages of development. It's why I love to cook, to write. It was really lovely to observe this pure creative process.
After that, it was a bit of a bug out since we were then shepherded directly into the adjacent Disney like store, where the salespeople were licking their chops waiting for us to buy stuff, so everyone involved could make a commission. But I digress. The jewelry was still ethnic and beautiful, and it's wonderful to take home a memento from your travels that will keep the memories of said trip fresh in your mind. I zeroed in on a really cool necklace and these earrings.
I love anything that makes a statement, I'm not a subtle gal in any way. Proudly.
I feel like a Middle Eastern belly dancer when I wear them! Something that will only be achieved via wearing them. I'm pretty realistic about that. They look so amazing with black, navy, and white. The intricate design goes so well against the neutrality of a clean, classic color palette. So chic. I'll break up the pair and wear one, with the other ear having tiny random gold earrings to compliment. My right ear has one hole for the showstopper. My left has my signature two gold safety pins on the lobe, and I'll put a small gold something in my upper left piercing. I love the off balance feel, I've been doing it all year. It's odd numbers, 3 and 1, and I once took a cooking class with the famous kosher chef, Helen Nash, who said always to decorate with odd numbers, it looks better. I heard that 17 years ago and follow that advice in every area: food presentation, decor, and fashion. It's just cooler. Sup,Helen?
Since the earring is so detailed I'll keep the other adornments gold as well, same color scheme, so it doesn't distract from the statement piece. Focus on a statement, then support it with the rest of your accessories. Who knew that this Disney jewelry shop would lead to word vomit about accessories??? Me.
